Beautification Group Still Looking For More Ideas

Fundraising is the next big push in the Beautification and Revitalization Committee's goal to bring new Christmas decorations to the downtown area.

A little more than $12,000 has been raised since the committee formed in January, but a lighted 13-piece nativity set, alone, will cost about $6,100. Other decorations include lights for the courthouse and greenery, as well as wreaths. The committee also hopes to relocate and add to the patriotic display in front of the courthouse.

Chamber Administrator Mary Kindt said more people have been showing up at the meetings and the committee is still looking for ideas to bring crowds into town to celebrate the lighting of the square. Entertainment ideas for the lighting of the square have so far included horse and carriage rides, carolers, a cookie walk, and hot chocolate and food vendors. Kindt said the Lincoln Trail College theater group has agreed to lend some of their costumes for carolers to use, as well.
